Hi, my name is Christine McKinney. This is my second year at UC. I'm 19 years old and my birthday is on March 27th. I have one sister named Nicole and my parents names are Debbie and Mark. I'm from Springboro, Ohio and graduated from Springboro high school in 2009. I love volunteering in the maternity area at MVH in Dayton and also at the City Gospel Mission in downtown Cincinnati. When I lived in Springboro, I worked at a little doughnut shop called The Donut Haus and now I work at the Classics Library in Blegan. I initially chose to major in Secondary Education Math, but changed my major because I love kids and would rather work with younger children. I've observed in a 4th and 6th grade classroom for about 15 hours.

Reflection on Standard 1 - Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.
Having students use digital tools to learn and be creative with learning is a good way of helping them advance in their education. It’s important to teach our students knowledge with technology. Technology is becoming very important in today’s society and most people will need to know how to operate it and learn from it when they get into the real/working world. Allowing students to use digital tools to learn and be creative with learning is a great way of helping them advance in their education. The students can watch the news and/or read articles from newspapers online in order to gather research on real world issues. This can be great for expanding their exploration and research skills with the internet. Wiki Space would be perfect for collaboration and communication with students, parents, and colleagues. It could help students have a place to reflect on what they have learned each day and allow parents to see what the students have been learning and their progress. Learning with digital tools can be beneficial to almost any kind of learner. For example, a computer is a perfect way for visual, auditory, and hands-on learners to learn. Visual learners can find videos about what they are learning and watch it, auditory learners can find lectures or books online that they can listen to on what they are learning, and for hands-on learners there are online models, videos, and websites that can help them to be more interactive with what they are learning.

Reflection on Standard 3- Model Digital Age Work and Learning
Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society.
Teachers collaborate with students, parents, and peers in order to keep people up to date ion what is going on in their classroom. It would be great for students to have communication with their teachers through digital tools and for them collaborate and improve their learning. I think it is important for people, especially parents, to know what their child is doing in the classroom and using digital tools and resources is a great way of doing it. I feel like using digital tools is faster and sometimes more efficient. For example, if you were to send a note with your child home that could show the progress of their learning, the child could either lose it or forget to give it to their parents. Also, if you mail the letter/note, it could take a while to get to the parent or get lost in the mail, but if you use digital tools such as email or wiki to contact parents and show them your students progress it could be seen a lot faster and also the parents would have a chance to send something back quickly. It's a great way of communication. If you can use these tools to communicate, it will help peers, students and parents to be more informed and allow them to get more involved in their child's learning.

Standard 4 - Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility
Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices. Teachers:
a.
advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources
I think this is a great standard, because sometimes we don't really think about it but we as teachers should definitely research safe and effective ways to use the internet. These should be researched so that we can pass it down to our students and help them to know how to use the internet safely and legally. In class a couple of weeks ago, we got together in groups and made up rules for using technology in our classroom. This is definitely needed because without rules our students would never know what is right and wrong to do on the internet. The internet is very dangerous and even though it may not seem like it can come out of the computer and bite us, it can be harmful in many different ways. Whether it be to your own computer or do their minds. It is best if teachers research what is needed to make using the internet safe for their children while not completely blocking everything from them. In class, we talked about how we can figure out how to block certain things without blocking every site that is bad, because there may be a site with really good research information for students that is bad because it uses some words that the site blocker sees as bad. I remember in high school when I was researching for english papers and some sites I could not get into because they were blocked by the school. Teachers should defnitely model and teach safe and legal use of digital information so students are well aware of the dangers of the internet and how to use the internet as safely and appropriately as possible.
